Stories of Families in Financial Transition
Every family has created wealth in their own way and has a different idea of their money’s purpose. Cookie-cutter approaches just won’t work at this level. We at Optima understand that multi-generational families need customized wealth management plans, a hands-on approach to execution, and trusted partners to keep family members focused on the long–term legacy.

Jordan
Jordan is in her mid-30s and has inherited a sizeable portfolio from her parents. She is married with young children. Her parents were clients of Optima for over 10 years. They worked hard and were disciplined and careful with their wealth. She hopes to do the same, but she’ll need guidance and support along the way. She realizes the need to continue accumulating assets in order to retire and fund her children’s education. She desires a trustworthy wealth manager who will listen to her goals, protect her interests, and make recommendations that would build wealth for her own family.
- Financial Planning — We helped Jordan with her own estate planning, including revocable and irrevocable trusts to efficiently pass her family’s wealth to the children and save for college.
- Philanthropy — Jordan's parents had a donor-advised fund (DAF), but she’d like to make a bigger impact and didn’t want to bother with making contributions herself. So we partnered with estate attorneys to set up a charitable lead trust (CLT).
- Investment Management — With decades until retirement, Jordan has her own goals and risk appetite, so we repositioned her portfolio assets toward growth by investing in alternative assets.
The Martins
Siblings Anthony and Linda, and their cousin Roy, have inherited wealth that their grandfather created through his own tech company. Anthony continues to work as an executive in the family business. All of them are living off of trust funds that their grandparents and parents carefully set up for them. They also have children ranging from 8 to 22 years old. The family is well-known in the community for their philanthropy emanating from a family foundation that Linda leads. The Martins also have many assets that need monitoring and managing. They enjoy a luxurious lifestyle, but they want to make sure their children understand the purpose of the family’s money and are prepared to take over when it’s their turn.
- Tax Planning — We partnered with their accountants to set up lifetime giving strategies to minimize inheritance tax to their children.
- Family Management Office — We assisted with family governance and reduced emotional conflicts by providing detailed financial reports and handling operational tasks.
- Succession Planning — We talked to them about options to monetize the family business for everyone’s benefit and guided them through the sale of the majority interest to a private equity firm.
